MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner toppled conference rival Breanu 6-3 in Game 1 of this afternoon's Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader before icing the visitors 4-0 in the nightcap to gain the series sweep here at Wynn Field.
Â
Jessica Butterworth offered up Faulkner's first home run in ball park this season to ignite the scoreboard in the Lady Eagles' first trip to the plate. The two-run shot gave the home team a quick lead before Hannah Qualls added to the run total with a hard single to right center before the inning expired.
Â
The Golden Tigers (12-11) did finally make good with a run on a hard double in the third, but Faulkner answered with a pair of RBI singles courtesy of Qualls and Emily Byrd that same inning.
Â
Brenau picked up two more runs on a single and a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning, but was unable to push the score any further.
Â

The freshman kept the hard-hitting Golden Tigers off the bases and never surrendered more than a single hit in any inning while allowing just three in the outing altogether.
Â
Qualls, meanwhile, put an end to Faulkner's offensive silence in the bottom of the fourth when she dropped an RBI single into shallow left field.
Â
Seales then inserted a punctuation mark in the Lady Eagle's scoring summery when she crushed a three-run bomb to hard left field in the fifth.
Â
Emma Cornell (4-0) gave up seven hits and three earned runs while striking out a pair of batters in 4 1/3 innings of work in the opening win.
Â
Hayden Strickland took over in the circle for the remainder of the outing and allowed three hits.
Â

Â
Butterworth and Byrd each had two hits on the day. Butterworth logged a pair of RBIs and runs while Byrd booked one of each as well.
Â
Seals secured four RBIs and scored twice on her two homers.
Â
