MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Seventh-ranked Mobile dealt Faulkner a 4-0 shutout in Game 1 of this evening's non-conference doubleheader, but the home team retaliated with a 6-3 victory to even things out in the nightcap here at Wynn Field.
Â
The Lady Rams (20-10) capitalized with a run on a passed ball in the first inning of the opener and Victoria Lewis issued the kill shot with a three-RBI double to hard right field in the sixth to secure the win.
Â
Mobile went ahead 1-0 again in the second contest on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly effort to left field, but this time, Faulkner had the antidote in Sophie Slemp's two-RBI single to left-center.
Â
After four scoreless innings, Faulkner extended it's lead with a four-run surge in the sixth. Makenzie Anthony sparked things with a brilliant RBI single down the first base line before Holli Brooks added the punctuation mark with a two-run homer to leftcenter.
Â
The Lady Rams refused to go quietly, however, and generated two more runs on Anna Blake Barnette's single down the right field line, but it wasn't enough to alter the outcome.
Â
The victory marked the Lady Eagles' second over a Top 10 opponent this season.
Â
Hayden Strickland (2-5) scattered seven hits over as many innings and allowed one earned run in the opening loss.
Â
Caitlin Perry (6-4) did much of the same allowing seven hits and three earned runs in a complete game performance from the circle in the win.
Â
Brooks had four hits, three RBIs and scored in the series and Slemp offered up three hits and drove in a pair of runs.
Â
Jessica Butterworth also had three hits and scored twice on the day while Anthony booked a hit, RBI and run in the second game.
Â
Faulkner moves to 13-9 and will next travel to Marion, Ala., to take on Judson College in a doubleheader slated to begin at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.Â
