GULF SHORES, Ala. - Faulkner's Emma Cornell dominated in the circle while her offense exploded for nine hits and capitalized on five St. Thomas (Fla.) errors to gain the 11-1 victory in just five inning in this evening's pool play finale here in the Gulf Coast Invitational.

Cornell (3-0) allowed just two hits and tallied a career-high eight strikeouts to anchor the defensive end of the Lady Eagle's lopsided victory over the Bobcats (8-8).

Faulkner wasted little time in causing serious offensive damage, connecting for five runs in the first inning and three runs each in the second and third.

Sophie Slemp sparked the Lady Eagles' scoring spree with an RBI single to right field before an infield error generated another. Emily Byrd then drove in a pair of runs with another single to right. Amanda Seales capped the first inning surge with an RBI single over the shortstop.

A wild throw on what should have been a routine out in the second inning allowed Jessica Butterworth to score all the way from first base in the following inning. Another wild toss on a steal effort at second resulted in another run for Faulkner. Byrd was then credited with her third RBI of the game before the side was retired.

St. Thomas drove booked run in the top the third on a hard shot down the third base line, but the Lady Eagles reclaimed the run-rule lead just moments later when Holli Brooks delivered a two-RBI single to centerfield.

Faulkner's final run resulted on a Wildcat error in the outfield.

Slemp, Butterworth and Brooks were each 2-for-3 in the game. Slemp scored three runs and knocked in two more while Brooks tallied two RBIs and runs. Butterworth also scored twice.

Byrd finished the game with three RBIs and Qualls knocked in two others.

Faulkner evened its season at 5-5 and is the top seed in the Silver Division of bracket play set to begin Sunday morning. The Lady Eagles earned a bye and will take on the winner of the Martin Methodist and Culver-Stockton game at 1 p.m.
