Box Score 2 McKENZIE, Tenn. - Bethel managed to generate three runs on four hits while holding Faulkner scoreless to gain the 3-0 victory in Game 1 of this afternoon's Southern States Athletic Conference matchup, but the Lady Eagles turned the table in the nightcap icing the home team 5-0 after capitalizing on just three hits and five Wildcat errors.
Bethel (25-16/8-8 SSAC) struck first in the fourth inning on an Amanda Brandenburg two-run homer before adding another on an infield throwing error in the fifth to secure the shutout.
Emma Cornell (7-4) suffered the loss after allowing just four hits and two earned runs while striking out six batters.
The second event looked much like the first, but with the Lady Eagles doing the scoring. The spree began with four runs on a single hit and a trio of Wildcat errors in the fourth inning. Faulkner's lone hit was a bunt effort.
Jessica Butterworth reached base for the second time in as many innings on a Bethel error and was later knocked in a on Sophie Slemp single to left field.
Caitlin Perry (7-7) scattered six hits over seven innings and struck out four batters en route to her fourth shutout of the season.
Faulkner produced just five hits on the day with Slemp tallying two of them. The senior was 2-for-4 with an RBI and run in the second game.
Faulkner moved to 19-17 overall and 7-9 in the league. The Lady Eagles travel to Pulaski, Tenn., on Saturday for another SSAC battle, this time with No. 13 Martin Methodist. The RedHawks clipped Faulkner by a single run in each of two non-conference games previously this season. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
