PULASKI, Tenn. - Brittany Bishop's one-hitter anchored the 5-0 victory for No. 13 Martin Methodist in the opening bout of this afternoon's Southern States Athletic Conference double header before Courtney Grooms' two-RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh lifted the home team past Faulkner 3-2 in the second contest to secure the sweep.

Taylor Ferguson sparked the RedHawks' (39-12/13-5 SSAC) five-run fifth inning in Game 1 with a two-RBI single to centerfield and Ashton Edwards' three-run homer just moments later capped the scoring spree and win.

Hayden Strickland (5-7) held down Faulkner's side of the a four-inning pitcher's dual in the opener. Strickland, like Bishop, gave up just a single hit through the first four innings of play, but things escalated quickly in the decisive fifth when Martin Methodist tallied five earned runs on four hits and an error.

Caitlin Perry took control of the circle and tossed a no-hitter in the final two innings of play.

Jessica Butterworth knocked in Faulkner's first run of the afternoon with a single to right field in the third inning of Game 2. 

Faulkner then took a 2-1 lead in the ensuing inning when Sophie Slemp scored on a wild throw in the infield. The lead held until the bottom of the seventh when Grooms singled, driving in a pair of runs with two outs on the board.

Emma Cornell (7-5) scattered seven hits over 6 2/3 innings of work and gave up three earned runs in the second game heart-breaker.

Faulkner had just four hits in today's series. Hannahlee Harris was the only Lady Eagle to log a hit in each game and she scored in the second event. Slemp went 1-for-2 in the nightcap and tallied the second run.

Faulkner dropped to 19-19 overall and 7-11 in the league. The Lady Eagles will next host cross-town rival Auburn Montgomery in the home season finale Tuesday evening at Wynn Field. The non-conference doubleheader is set to begin at 4 p.m.
