Faulkner splits with Brewton-Parker

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner was looking to rebound from three consecutive Southern States Athletic Conference series losses with a sweep of its own against Brewton-Parker here at Wynn Field this afternoon. The Lady Eagles scored three unanswered runs to gain the 3-2 decision in the opener, but fell 1-0 to the Barons in the second event here at Wynn Field.

After moving a runner into scoring position in the first two innings of Game 1, Brewton-Parker (13-23/3-9 SSAC) finally connected with a pair of runs on a single and fielder's choice in the third to take the lead.

Faulkner answered promptly with three consecutive hits that same inning, however. The Lady Eagles' first run came on a Sophie Slemp single down the third base line and the second on a Holli Brooks sacrifice fly effort to hard right field.

Katie Goodson's RBI single in the sixth gave Faulkner the lead and eventual win.

The Barons took a 1-0 lead on their first trip to the plate and ultimately secured the win with an RBI double to right-center field courtesy of Courtney Bahrs in the second contest.

Faulkner squandered several scoring opportunities including a bases-loaded, one-out situation in the third.

In all, the Lady Eagles stranded 13 runners on the base in the series.

Brooks finished the day 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run. Jessica Butterworth was 3-for-6 and scored.

Slemp and Goodson were each 1-for-2 with and RBI in the opener.

Hayden Strickland (4-6) allowed just four hits and a single earned run in a complete game performance in the opening win.

Caitlin Perry (6-7) had an equally solid showing in the circle despite the Game 2 loss. The freshman scattered just five hits over seven innings and gave up the lone earned run.

Faulkner moved to 16-16 on the year, but more importantly, now sits at 4-8 in the league. The Lady Eagles host Coastal Georgia in a crucial SSAC series beginning tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Wynn Field. Faulkner's seniors will be recognized in a special ceremony prior to the opening game at approximately 12:45 p.m.
