MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Faulkner men's soccer team (7-4-1, 1-3 SSAC) were unable to rally against a stout Bethel team, losing the Southern States Athletic Conference matchup 4-2 at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium Saturday night.
The Wildcats had a 4-0 lead in the first half, but Augusto Camara cut the lead to three with a bullet that found the left-hand upper 90 in the 43rd minute.
The Eagles looked to have another chance just before halftime to trim the lead in half when George Redwin went down in the box, but it was waved off and play continued.
Faulkner picked the tempo up in the second half in order to rally, and the squad added some momentum when Jarom Farnsworth put a shot in the back of the net from the top of the box. Baba Mediateur and Redwin were awarded the assists.
The shots were nearly equal, with the Eagles outshooting Bethel 13-12 in the game.
Caio Calado (7-4-1) started for Faulkner in the net and gave up all four goals and didn't record a save.
The Eagles next game will be in Mount Vernon, Georgia, to take on Brewton-Parker on Wednesday. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. central.
