Late deficit too much to overcome for Faulkner

Box Score

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Eagles soccer team (6-3-1, 0-2 SSAC) was unable to hold off the No. 1 William Carey Knights in a 3-1 loss this afternoon.

WCU jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the first six minutes of the game.

In the 39th minute, George Redwin nearly capitalized on a great move past his defender, but the shot attempt missed just wide, and the score going into the break remained 1-0.

The Knights added two more goals in the 65th and 67th minutes to add to their lead.

Mateus Cesar gave the Eagles a little bit of life in the 72nd tick with a beautiful free-kick goal from the right side of the field, but that wouldn't be enough to spark a comeback.

Caio Calado (6-3-1) started in goal for Faulkner and recorded one save while allowing all three goals.

The Eagles next match will be against Martin Methodist at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium on Thursday. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
