MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner (2-0) blasted Judson College 8-0 in just five innings in Game 1 of this afternoon's season-opening doubleheader before scoring four unanswered runs in the nightcap to secure the 4-3 comeback and series sweep here at Wynn Field.

Emma Cornell (1-0) was nothing short of brilliant from the circle for the Lady Eagles in the opening win. The junior left-hander stuck out eight batters and allowed no earned runs or hits in a performance that was a single pitch shy of a perfect game.

Cornell's lights-out work in the field allowed the Faulkner offense to score uncontested.

Kendall Bennett sparked the Game 1 point spree with a two-RBI single in the third inning. The final six runs arrived in the decisive fifth.

Hannahlee Harris scored the third run of the game on a fielder's choice and wild throw before Bennett added two more runs to the board courtesy of another single just moments later.

Abbigail Barron's RBI single made it 6-0 two batters later and Taylor Nelson knocked in an additional run with a single of her own.

Faulkner scored its final run on a misplayed grounder.

The second round started out much like the first with Judson struggling to occupy bases. That all changed in the third inning, however, when an outfield error allowed the visitors to score three runs on a single swing.

Cornell cut the deficit to two runs with an RBI single on Faulkner's ensuing at-bat, however, while simultaneously proving she's not a one-trick pony. She was 2-for-3 at the plate in the game.

Harris hit a sacrifice fly the following inning and Bailee Trotter tied the contest with an RBI soon after.

Shelby Brown, who went 4-for-4 in Game 2, drove in the game-winning run on a single in the sixth inning.

Brown was brilliant in the batter's box going 5-for-7 on the afternoon while scoring twice and driving in a pair of runs.

Bennett was 3-for-3 with four RBIs in the first event while Alicia Richardson went 2-for-3 in the second and scored.

Harris tallied two hits, RBIs and runs on the day.

Hayden Strickland Oates got the second game start and allowed no hits or earned runs while booking a strikeout in three innings of work.

Caitlin Perry (1-0) held the circle for the final four innings and gave up just two hits and had four strikeouts in the win.

Faulkner will next enter the Southeastern Challenge hosted by USC-Beaufort in South Carolina. The three-day crossover tournament is set to begin on Feb. 16. The Lady Eagles will open play against the host Sand Sharks at 3 p.m. central.
