Box Score 2 MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner (5-0) scored early and often in Game 1 of this afternoon's doubleheader against Culver-Stockton (Mo.) (0-2) to claim the 19-1 blowout before catapulting out of a 3-1 deficit to secure the 4-3 victory and sweep in the nightcap here at Harrison Field.
The Eagle bats exploded in Game 1 generating 19 runs on as many hits over the nine-inning pummeling. The second showdown was a different matter, however.
Olivier Basabe hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning of the second outing to give the home team the 1-0 lead, but three Culver-Stockton singles in the fourth inning ushered in as many runs giving the Wildcats a two-run advantage.
Pinch hitter Deivy Palmerio countered with an RBI single that same inning, however, before trigger man Michael Darr tied the contest driving in a run in the Faulkner fifth.
Darr later punched in the game-winner with another well-placed single in the bottom of seventh inning.
Basabe was electric going 6-for-8 with six RBIs and five runs on the day while Darr was 4-for-8 with three RBIs and run.
Reid Long and John Price were both 2-for-3 in Game 1 and Long scored twice and knocked in another run.
Ivan Pelaez (2-0) got the opening win after scattering just three hits over five scoreless innings and striking out a pair of batters.
Kolby Green held the mound for the final four innings and gave up no earned runs on just one hit and struck out four at the plate.
Tyler Tungate allowed two earned runs on three hits and stuck out four in the first four innings of Game 2.
Braden Olive gave up just one hit and struck out a pair of batters in the ensuing 2 1/3 innings before Tylier Campbell (1-0) entered and tallied the win while allowing a lone hit.
Faulkner and Culver-Stockton will resume play in a second doubleheader beginning tomorrow at 1 p.m.
