No. 2 Eagles blister LSU-Alexandria in sweep

ALEXANDRIA, La. - Second-ranked Faulkner (14-1) cruised to a 10-0 (7) shutout of LSU-Alexandria here in Game 1 of this afternoon's doubleheader before securing the sweep with a 9-2 decision in the nightcap. 

 

The Eagles scored half of their runs in the opener in a no-hit second inning thanks to four walks, two hit batters and a wild throw.

 

The last five runs came on as many hits and was capped by a John Price homer in the seventh inning.

 

Ivan Pelaez (3-1) was stellar from the mound striking out 13 of the 22 batters he faced while allowing just two hits and walking none in the seven-inning shutout.

 

The Eagles got off to a sizable lead in the first inning of Game 2 as well with another five-run effort.

 

The home team peppered two runs over the first three innings, but there was little the Generals could do to keep an offensive pace.

 

Israel Fuentes (3-0) booked the second win giving up just a single earned run on four hits while striking out seven at the plate.

 

Braden Olive struck out a pair of batters in a hitless 1 2/3 of mid-game work while Tylier Campbell logged a pair of strikeouts in his two-hit ninth inning.

 

L.D. Long was 2-for-3 with three runs and a pair of RBIs in the opener while Price scored twice and also drove in a pair of runs.

 

Reid Long went 3-for-4 in the nightcap and had two RBIs and scored.

 

Olivier Basabe was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs.

 

Faulkner will take on LSU-Alexandria in doubleheader action again tomorrow afternoon beginning at 1 p.m.
