No. 2 Faulkner edges No. 6 Lindsey Wilson 12-9 in opener

Box Score

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Sixth-ranked Lindsey Wilson (0-2) exploded early with a seven-run second inning in this afternoon's season opener, but nine unanswered runs over two ensuing at-bats anchored the 12-9 victory for No. 2 Faulkner (1-0) here in the Southeastern Challenge at Harrison Field.

A T.J. Condon double in the bottom of the first inning moved Ryan Rosa into scoring position and a wild pitch brought him in just moments later.

The visitors responded with force in their second at-bat, however. Lindsey Wilson ignited the scoreboard on a fielder's choice and then gained the lead on a Lawyer Braun single to shallow center.

A wild pitch from Tyler Tungate followed by an infield error gave the visitors the 5-1 lead before a Mauricio Guadarrama double off of new pitcher Braden Olive extended the Lindsey Wilson advantage to six runs.

Faulkner answered immediately, however, with a bases-loaded RBI single courtesy of Rosa.

Reid Long drove in two more runs with a base hit and Condon capped the scoring with a sac fly to right field.

Pinch hitter Michael Darr came up big for the Eagles in the third when he delivered a game-tying two-RBI single to left field.

Rosa punched Faulkner into a permanent lead with an RBI double down the left field line that same inning and a wild pitch and sac fly from Long allowed Faulkner to claim a 10-7 lead.

Lindsey Wilson secured additional runs in the fourth and seventh innings, but Faulkner responded yet again.

Austin Paschke drove in a run on a single in the seventh while the final run of the outing was booked on a wild throw to third base.

Rosa was 3-for-5 with three runs and a pair of RBIs in the opener.

Paschke was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run while Long finished the game 1-for-3 knocking in three runs.

Tungate gave up two earned runs on seven hits in 1 1/3 innings as the Eagles' starter.

Faulkner got five masterful innings out of Olive (1-0). The junior lefty allowed just five hits and a single earned run while striking out four in five innings of work to earn the win.

Austin Moreland held the mound for 1 1/3 innings and gave up just two hits and struck out a pair of batters.

Closer Jonathan Wilkins tallied a strikeout while facing four batters in the ninth inning.

Faulkner will take on No. 4 Tennessee Wesleyan in the final bout of the Challenge tonight. The start time has been moved to 6:30.
