WEST POINT, Ga. - Faulkner (9-10) scored in all but two innings in Game 1 of this afternoon's doubleheader against Point (16-10) to earn head coach Hal Wynn his 700th career victory by way of an 8-3 decision before the home team forced a series split with a 4-2 win in the nightcap. 

Shelby Brown piped a solo home run to left center field in her first trip to the plate before knocking in another run alongside Baliee Trotter in the second inning to give the Lady Eagles a 3-0 lead.

The visitors then made it 5-0 in the top of the fifth courtesy of RBIs from Kendall Bennett and Alicia Richardson.

A three-run homer from Point's Shea Pendley in the south side of that same inning trimmed the Faulkner lead to a pair of runs, however, and an ensuing walk and double put the game into a much tighter race.

Caitlin Perry then entered the game relieving starting pitcher Hayden Strickland Oates and quickly extinguished any hope of a Skyhawk comeback. The sophomore delivered in spades, striking out five of the eight batters she faced while giving up a lone hit to earn the save.

A sixth-inning Trotter RBI extended the Faulkner lead to 6-3 before a Richardson homer and Perry single in the seventh ushered in the final two runs of the game.

Oates (1-4) picked up her first win of the season while allowing three earned runs on eight hits over 4 1/3 innings of work from the circle.

An RBI triple and single combo in the bottom of the second inning of Game 2 gave Point an early 2-0 lead, but Faulkner answered in the following at-bat with a twin RBI knock from Brown.

The stalemate was short-lived, however, as Point answered with two more runs on a double in the bottom of that same inning.

Tori Davis (1-3) gave up four earned runs on 10 hits while striking out six batters over 4 1/3 innings in the Game 2 loss.

Emma Cornell allowed no hits and tallied a strikeout through the final 1 2/3 from the circle.

Brown was again a monster at the plate for Faulkner going 5-for-7 in the series, which included a 4-for-4 effort in the opener, and had four RBIs and scored.

Richardson was also perfect in Game 1 going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run.

Trotter and Bennett each had a pair of hits and drove in two and one run, respectively, in the win.

"Reaching 700 wins is a great accomplishment for all the young ladies who have come through this program," Wynn said. "It speaks very highly of what they have done and I'm extremely proud of each and every one of them. I've never won a game here, but I have lost many of them."

Wynn ranks seventh in total career wins among active NAIA softball coaches.

Faulkner will next open Southern States Athletic Conference play against Brewton-Parker in doubleheader action at Wynn Field tomorrow afternoon beginning at 1 p.m.
