Faulkner rolls Brewton-Parker in weekend series

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner (23-3, 6-0 SSAC) remained undefeated in Southern States Athletic Conference play after sweeping Brewton-Parker 6-3, 14-4 and 11-1 at Harrison Field through Friday and Saturday.

T.J. Condon's first-inning home run set the tempo for the opening victory as the Eagles went on to score in all but the sixth inning.

Ivan Pelaez (5-1) earned the win after scattering four hits over five shutout innings and striking out two batters.

Hagey gave up three runs on as many hits in the sixth inning before Tylier Campbell gained the save with a two-hit seventh inning effort.

Game 2 on Friday saw more of the same with Faulkner scoring in all but the sixth and eighth innings. Despite what the score might suggest, there were no home runs hit in the 14-4 blowout.

The Eagles did deliver five doubles, however, three of which came in the three-run third inning.

Israel Fuentes allowed four earned runs on six hits over the first two innings but the Baron temp slowed once mid-game reliever and eventual winner Tyler Tungate (3-0) took the mound.

Tugate surrendered just one hit while striking out four batters over three innings of work before Junior Ramirez posted identical numbers over as many innings.

Jonathan Wilkins closed things out with a one-hit, one-strikeout ninth.

Saturday's lopsided win was weighted by explosive middle innings where the Eagles generated nine of their 11 runs.

Two homers courtesy of Paolo Montezuma and Deivy Palmeiro ushered in three runs for Faulkner in the third inning while four hits, a walk and a balk accounted for six runs in the fourth.

The Eagle defense was spearheaded by Mike Peters (4-0) who gave up just two hits in five shutout innings while putting away eight batters in the win.

Preston Szuch allowed two hits and struck out a pair of batters in the sixth inning before Austin Moreland and Wilkins divided outs in the seventh.

Moreland booked a strikeout and walked a batter and surrendered the lone earned run in the event.

Palmeiro was 4-for-7 with three RBIs and two runs in the series while John Price was 5-for-9, drove in four runs and scored as many himself.

Reid Long was 4-for-5 with three RBIs and a pair of runs on Friday.

Faulkner will next travel to Pulaski, Tenn., for a three-game conference series against Martin Methodist. Game 1 is set for 5 p.m. Friday evening with a doubleheader following at noon on Saturday.
