MONTGOMERY, Ala. - A two-run homer lifted Brewton-Parker (6-17, 1-3 SSAC) over Faulkner (10-11, 1-1 SSAC) 2-0 in Game1 of this afternoon's Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader, but a strong fifth inning anchored a 3-1 Lady Eagle victory here in the nightcap at Wynn Field.
Â
The Barons's offense woke up in the third inning of the opener with three hits which included a two-run bomb that catapulted the team into the eventual win.
Â
Caitlin Perry (5-2) came up shy in what was more or less a pitcher's duel. The sophomore gave up just four hits and tallied six strikeouts in the complete game effort.
Â
Faulkner's offense, meanwhile, managed just two hits though only one batter struck out.
Â
The visitors took a 1-0 lead on a passed ball in the top of the second inning in Game 2, but the advantage was short-lived as the Lady Eagles tied it on an infield error that same inning.
Â
The home team finally fractured the tie on a Kendall Bennett RBI double in the fifth. Bennett later scored on a fielder's choice.
Â
Emma Cornell (3-2) scattered seven hits over as many innings and booked four strikeouts in the win. She was also the only Lady Eagle with multiple hits in a game, registering a 2-for-3 effort and scoring the team's first run.Â
Â
Bennett had a hit in each game and drove in the go-head run and scored in the second contest.Â
Â
Faulkner will next host Brenau (Ga.) in conference play on Tuesday afternoon. Opening pitch in the doubleheader is slated for 3 p.m.
