Box Score 2 COCHRAN, Ga. - A Kendall Bennett RBI single in the eighth inning of Game 1 lifted Faulkner (11-14, 2-4 SSAC) to a 3-2 victory over Middle Georgia State (10-20, 1-5 SSAC), but the home team countered with an RBI knock of its own in the forth inning of the nightcap to secure the 1-0 decision and force the split here in this afternoon's Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader.
Taylor Nelson's bases-loaded infield single and Hannahlee Harris' RBI fielder's choice in the second inning of the opener put the Lady Eagles on top 2-0.
The Knights trimmed the deficit on a base hit in the bottom of that same inning, however, before tying the event with a sacrifice fly in the fifth.
The stalemate held through regulation and into extended play before Bennett delivered the game-winning knock. She hit .500 on the day and scored a run in the opener.
Abbigail Barron went 2-for-3 and scored in Game 1.
Hayden Strickland Oates (2-4) scattered six hits over eight innings while allowing two earned runs and striking out a batter in the win.
The two teams produced absolutely identical numbers in the hits, errors, strikeouts and walks columns in Game 2 of the series, but one of Middle Georgia's five contacts at the plate had a run in tow creating the ultimate difference.
Tori Davis (1-4) struck out seven batters while allowing just five hits and a single earned run in the loss.
Faulkner will next take on Coastal Georgia in SSAC action in Brunswick tomorrow afternoon. The doubleheader is scheduled for noon.
