BRUNSWICK, Ga. - Paige Alt's no-hit effort from the circle for Coastal Georgia (20-8, 4-2 SSAC) kept Faulkner (11-16, 2-6 SSAC) out of scoring range in the 1-0 Game 1 victory in this afternoon's Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader, before a two-run sixth inning effort catapulted the Mariners to the series sweep with a 3-1 decision in the nightcap.
Â
A pair of two-out walks in the third inning set the stage for a Coastal Georgia RBI single that ultimately proved the game-winning play in the opener.
Â
Caitlin Perry (5-4) allowed just five hits while booking eight strikeouts in the one-run loss.
Â
The Lady Eagle offense did little to help bail Perry out of the early rut as Alt stifled the bats while striking out three batters.
Â
Another third-inning RBI put Coastal on top 1-0 in Game 2, but Faulkner responded this time when Kendall Bennett singled up the middle scoring Alicia Richardson who was parked at second base following her double.
Â
The tie held through two innings before a pair of singles ushered in as many runs in the sixth securing the win for the Mariners.
Â
Emma Cornell (3-4) surrendered three earned runs on five hits while striking out seven batters in the second loss.
Â
Faulkner managed just four hits in the series. Hannahlee Harris accounted for the lone contact in the opener while Abbigail Barron and Richardson were the most efficient offensive weapons for Faulkner in Game 2 going 1-for-1 and 1-for-2, respectively. Richardson also scored the run.
Â
Faulkner returns to SSAC action on March 25 when it travels to Pulaski, Tenn., to take on No. 14 Martin Methodist. The doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m.
