PULASKI, Tenn. - Faulkner (12-17, 3-7 SSAC) stiff-armed a Martin Methodist comeback late in Game 1 of this afternoon's Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader (10-15, 2-6 SSAC) to clinch the 4-3 victory, but the RedHawks prevented the sweep with a walk-off two-run homer in the ninth inning to gain the 3-1 win in the nightcap here this evening.

The Lady Eagles struck first in the second inning of the opener on a Hannahlee Harris single to center field before Katie Goodson knocked in an additional run on a fielder's choice play in the third.

Faulkner extended its lead to 4-0 in the sixth inning with a run on an infield error and an Emma Cornell double.

Martin Methodist rallied quickly in the bottom of that same frame, however, tallying three runs on three doubles, but the surge wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.

The visitors finally broke the Game 2 scoring silence when Cornell bolted home on an error at second base in the sixth inning.

The lead held until the do-or-die seventh when the RedHawks tied the contest with a two-out RBI knock to center field sending the game into extended play.

Taylor Hurford eventually solidified the win for the home team with a two-run bomb to left field.

Caitlin Perry (6-4) scattered seven hits over as many innings while booking eight strikeouts and allowing three earned runs in the Game 1 win.

Tori Davis (1-5) gave up seven hits and two earned runs while tallying five strikeouts in 8 1/3 innings in the loss.

Harris was electric at the plate for Faulkner through the series. The leadoff was 6-for-9, which included a 4-for-4 effort in the opener, and drove in a run and scored.

Cornell was 3-for-6 overall with a pair of doubles in Game 1 and scored.

Faulkner will next host No. 5 Georgia Gwinnett in doubleheader action at Wynn Field beginning at 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
