Faulkner drops first SSAC contest at Loyola

Box Score

New Orleans, La. - Top-ranked Faulkner (31-4, 9-1 SSAC) overcame Spenser Rosenbohm's two-RBI, first-inning single but couldn't stop Loyola's (17-20, 3-7 SSAC) scoring consistency that ultimately paved the way to the 5-3 Wolfpack victory here this evening.

A John Price sacrifice fly and Reid Long solo home run tied the contest in the top of the third, but the home team regained the lead in the bottom of the frame on another RBI single.

Loyola added to its lead and capped its scoring efforts with two singles while facing two outs in the bottom of the fifth.

The Eagles managed a final run on a Tra'mayne Holmes single in the seventh.

Ivan Pelaez (7-2) allowed three earned runs on nine hits while striking out five batters in as many innings in the loss.

Junior Ramirez gave up just a single hit while striking out a batter though the the sixth and seventh innings, while Austin Moreland tossed a no-hit eighth and struck out two of the three batters he faced.

The two teams complete the series tomorrow in a doubleheader slated for 1 p.m.
