Faulkner blasts Stillman in sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - It took Faulkner (8-9) a pair of extended-inning efforts to defeat Stillman College in the teams' previous showdown this season, but the case wasn't the same today. A six-run third inning in this afternoon's opener elevated the Lady Eagles to a 6-1 victory before the team overcame a slow defensive start to secure the 12-4 win in just five innings in the nightcap here at Wynn Field.

Faulkner scored all six of its Game 1 runs on seven singles and an infield error in the third inning.

Stillman managed a run in the top of the fourth, but was unable to reduce the deficit further.

Caitlin Perry (5-1) gave up just three hits and a single earned run while striking out seven batters and walking none in the complete win.

The Tigers and starting Faulkner pitcher Emma Cornell (2-2) alternated walks and singles through the bulk of the first inning in the second contest to usher in a 4-0 lead for Stillman.

The Lady Eagles answered immediately, however, tying the game behind three doubles, a sacrifice fly and an infield error. Faulkner went on to score in every inning en route to the blowout.

Cornell settled into the circle after an erratic first inning and dominated for the remainder of the outing. The junior left-hander gave up four earned runs on six hits while booking two strikeouts and walking three batters in the win. All runs, strikeouts and walks and half of the Tiger hits were booked around the first three outs of the game.

Shelby Brown was nothing short of impressive going 6-for-8 with three RBIs and runs in the series.

Not to be outdone, Alicia Richardson was equally potent going 5-for-7 with three RBIs and runs of her own.

Hannahlee Harris went 5-for-8 and scored four times on the day.

Katie Goodson was 2-for-3, knocked in a run and scored in Game 1 and Hayden Strickland did the same in the second bout, but with an additional RBI.

Kendall Bennett was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run in the first game.

Faulkner next travels to Point (Ga.) for a doubleheader Friday at 2 p.m.
