Box Score 2 LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Fifth-ranked Georgia Gwinnett (41-7-1) rolled early here in the opening contest of this afternoon's doubleheader to secure the 4-0 victory before fending off a late-game Faulkner (18-25) rally to gain the sweep in the 4-3 decision.
Caitlin Perry (8-5) surrendered four earned runs on six hits while striking out three batters and walking two over 2 1/3 innings in the opening loss.
Hayden Strickland Oates was stone cold from the circle for the remainder of the ball game allowing just two hits.
Faulkner again fell behind 4-0 in the second outing, but a three-run fifth inning put the visitors within a score of the national power.
The Lady Eagles tallied three runs on a hit, two walks and two errors, but were unable to connect at home plate further. The fifth-inning hit was Faulkner's lone contact in the outing.
Emma Cornell (4-7) allowed two earned runs on nine hits she scattered over six innings and stockout two batters in the complete game loss.
Cornell was also the only Lady Eagle with multiple hits in the series and secured both in a 2-for-4 Game 1 effort. She had an RBI in the second event.
Shelby Brown had a hit and RBI in the nightcap while the other RBI was booked by Taylor Nelson.
Faulkner will next travel to Mt. Vernon, Georgia, for a conference doubleheader against Brewton-Parker beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
