Faulkner completes sweep of Mobile in regular season finale

MOBILE, Ala. - Second-ranked Faulkner (43-10, 18-6 SSAC) claimed the third and final win over Mobile (33-17, 13-11 SSAC) in the Southern States Athletic Conference series and regular season finale with the 9-6 decision here this afternoon.

 

The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in their first at-bat on a balk before Reid Long extended the advantage with a two-RBI single in the third inning.

 

The Rams leapt into a slight lead following four runs gained on six hits in the bottom of the same inning, however.

 

Faulkner tied the contest with a John Price single in the fourth before claiming a permanent lead with a four-run fifth inning anchored by an L.D. Coney two-run homer.

 

Braden Olive (4-1) earned the win in long relief after allowing just a single hit over the final five innings of play. The junior lefty also had three strikeouts.

 

Tyler Tungate pitched the first four innings and surrendered six earned runs on 10 hits while tallying five strikeouts.

 

Price was 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs and T.J. Condon went 3-for-5 at the plate.

 

Long hit .500 and knocked in a pair of runs and scored while Ryan Rosa was 2-for-5 with an RBI and run.

 

Faulkner will next enter the SSAC tournament as the league's second seed behind regular season champion Middle Georgia State. The Eagles will open play against seventh-seeded Martin Methodist at 4 p.m. on May 3 at Patterson Field downtown. Faulkner swept the RedHawks in their regular season series.
