Box Score Faulkner (5-1) picked up its fourth straight win Saturday afternoon, controlling things from the outset in a 79-50 romp through Carver College.
"It's our depth that won for sure because we were able to wear them down," Faulkner Head Coach Reed Sutton said. "They're really scrappy. They did a good job on us on the offensive glass. You've got to give them a lot of credit for that."
The Lady Eagles hung 23 points on the board in the first quarter to set the tone while limiting Carver to 27 total points through the first three periods.
Faulkner outpaced Carver 55-44 on the glass and forced 19 turnovers on the day. The lone area of concern for Sutton's team came in the fourth quarter when it allowed 23 points to a short-handed Cougar bunch that started the day with six players and played more than half the contest with only five.
Angela Grant (FR/Hoover, Ala.) finished with 15 points and eight rebounds to lead Faulkner. Ashlyn Adkins (SO/Locust Fork, Ala.) had d14 points, five rebounds and three steals. The Lady Eagles also got eight points from Dyani Thompson (JR/Montgomery, Ala.) and seven from Taylor Jones (JR/Montgomery, Ala.) as well as six apiece from Kimberly Horton (SO/Cleveland, Ala.), Nicole Shirley (SO/Tuscumbia, Ala.) and Kayla Key (JR/Hartselle, Ala.).
Sutton pointed to Key's all-around performance as one of the high points of the game. The junior guard finished with six rebounds, five assists and a steal.
"If we can get Kayla Key doing what she did today, I was really pleased with her play," Sutton said. "I was really happy with Kayla Key today and really excited about what she is bringing offensively. She is starting to score and making some plays for us."
Faulkner opens Southern States Athletic Conference play Thursday night when it hosts No. 21 Bethel (7-1)
