Iron proves unkind for Lady Eagles in road loss to Loyola

Box Score

Faulkner struggled on the offensive end Friday night, shooting just 25 percent from the floor in a 62-51 road loss to Loyola.

"We played great. We just couldn't make shots. That's all it was," Faulkner Head Coach Reed Sutton said.

The Lady Eagles played largely dead even or better in every other statistical category. They limited Loyola to 26.7 percent shooting from three-point territory, forced 15 turnovers and grabbed 17 of their 46 rebound son the offensive end. Yet, only 16 of the 64 Faulkner shots from the floor ripped through the net on the night.

"We're proving every single night that we can play with anybody on the defensive end," Sutton said. "We've just got to have confidence that we can make shots."

With Angela Grant (FR/Hoover, Ala.) in foul trouble early, Valentina Klocker (FR/Salzburg, Austria) logged considerable minutes, finishing with six points and eight rebounds. Nicole Shirley (SO/Tuscumbia, Ala.) paced Faulkner topped all scorers with 17 points to go along with nine rebounds and a pair of assists. Ashlyn Adkins (SO/Locust Fork, Ala.) finished with 13 points.

"We thought Valentina really came in and gave us good minutes off the bench and I thought our backcourt played well," Sutton said.

Faulkner (7-3, 1-2 SSAC) returns to the action Sunday at 2 p.m. when they play at William Carey.

"We don't like to play Sundays, but this is a unique situation because both us and Loyola had exams, so we had to back up our usual Thursday-Saturday schedule," Sutton said.
