Faulkner, Point split doubleheader

WEST POINT, Ga. - Faulkner (6-1) dropped its first contest of the season 1-0 in Game 1 of this afternoon's doubleheader here against Point University (3-7), but rebounded with a 4-2 decision in the nightcap to earn the series split.

The Skyhawk's lone run in the opener was tallied in the fourth inning when a misplayed grounder allowed the leadoff batter to reach base and eventually score behind two sacrifice contacts that sandwiched a strong single to left field.

The first showdown proved a defensive dual with the Lady Eagles outhitting the home team just four to two.

Tori Davis (1-1) suffered the loss after allowing just two hits while striking out a batter in four innings of work. The lone run was unearned.

Emma Cornell tossed the final two frames.

Faulkner finally broke its scoring silence in the top of the fourth inning in the subsequent contest.

Abbigail Barron parked a leadoff double down the left field line and Kayla Gravatt followed with a single to the same side.

Dakota Berry then sent a sacrifice fly to center field ushering in the first run before Gravatt scored on a wild pitch.

Speedster Shelbie Burbage then scored the Lady Eagles' final run of the day all the way from first base on a Hannahlee Harris double.

Point trimmed the deficit to two runs courtesy of an RBI single in the bottom of the same inning and turned up the pressure with a leadoff homer in the sixth.

Faulkner loaded the bases in its final trip to the plate and scored a final run on a misplayed grounder at shortstop.

Caitlin Perry (3-0) clinched the win surrendering two earned run on six hits while striking out 10 batters and in a complete game effort.

Harris continues to be a spark at the plate in the leadoff position. The senior outfielder was 4-for-6 on the day and had an RBI in the second event.

Shelby Brown was 2-for-3 in Game 2 and Gravatt was 2-for-4 and both players scored runs.

Faulkner will next take on Truett-McConnell in Cleveland, Georgia, on Saturday. Game time has yet to be determined.
