No. 2 Faulkner upends No. 17 Clarke 8-2

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Second-ranked Faulkner (13-0) bookended this afternoon's matchup against No. 17 Clarke (Iowa) (1-6) with four run intervals to earn the 8-2 victory here at Georgia Gwinnett College.

 

A Jacob Freeland RBI single in the Eagles' first at-bat put Faulkner on the board early and the team added three more runs in the top of the third inning.

 

Ryan Rosa stole home to ignite the frame before an infield error and Reese Cooley sacrifice fly ushered in two more runs.

 

Clarke answered with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning and a solo homer in the eighth, but Faulkner countered with an explosive four-run ninth to put the contest away.

 

Cooley sparked the offense with a twin-RBI single before Luis Duran stole home. Cooley later scored on a Reid Long double.

 

Alex DuBord (3-0) got the start and win from the mound after allowing a single earned run on just four hits while striking out seven batters in as many innings of work.

 

Tyler Tungate got the save while striking out four batters and giving up an earned run on two hits over the final two innings of play.

 

Rosa and Freeland were both 2-for-3 in the game and booked a run and RBI, respectively.

 

Long was 3-for-5 and scored and Cooley added three RBIs and a run to the statistical printout.

 

T.J. Riles and Ta'kwaan Whyte were each 2-for-4 with two and one run, respectively.

 

Faulkner will again face off against the Lions at 12:30 p.m. central tomorrow. The Eagles then go toe-to-toe with No. 12 Georgia Gwinnett at 6 p.m.
