Faulkner moves to 15-0 with completion of weekend sweep

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Second-ranked Faulkner (15-0) cruised to a 13-6 victory over No. 17 Carke (Iowa) in the first showdown of the afternoon before muscling by No. 12 Georgia Gwinnett 7-5 (10) in the weekend finale here this evening.
  
Clarke held a brief 5-2 advantage over the Eagles after adding two runs to the board in the top of the sixth inning, but Faulkner hammered back with seven runs in the ensuing at-bat, offsetting the upset bid.
  
Reese Cooley was an impressive 2-for-3 with three RBIs and runs in the first bout of the day and Rusber Estrada added three RBIs and a run on a a 3-for-4 effort at the plate.
  
Alex Carrillo struck out five batters while allowing three earned runs on four hits over 3 1/2 innings of work from he mound in the start.
  
Evan Gillespie was credited with the win after striking out four batters and surrounding a lone hit in 2 2/3 innings in relief.
  
Georgia Gwinnett tied Game 2 with a must-have run in the do-or-die ninth inning to send the game into extended innings, but a two-run Faulkner 10th ultimately catapulted the Eagles into victory lane.
  
Cooley added to his potency at the plate with a 3-for-5 showing in the nightcap while adding two more RBIs to his statistical tally.
  
Reid Long was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and runs.
  
Tyler Tungate secured the Game 2 start and gave up four earned runs on six hits while striking out seven batters in 6 1/3 innings form the mound.
  
Brandon Suttles (1-0) got the win in relief and struck out a batter in 2/3 of an inning of work.
  
Faulkner will next travel to Talladega for a doubleheader slated for noon on Tuesday.
