Faulkner win streak hits 13 games with sweep of Blue Mountain

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner (21-2, 6-0 SSAC) edged Blue Mountain (Miss.) 2-1 in Game 1 of this afternoon's Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader before securing the sweep with a 1-0 victory in the second event here at Wynn Field.

A throwing error to first base on an Abbigail Barron sacrifice bunt try put the Lady Eagles on the board in the second inning of Game 1 before Dakota Berry's sac fly to right-center field extended the advantage to 2-0 just moments later.

The Toppers finally illuminated the run column on the scoreboard with Kaitlin Bradley's RBI double in the seventh, but BMC was unable to reel in the tying score.

Emma Cornell (10-0) scattered eight hits over seven innings while striking out three batters and surrendering a lone earned run in the win.

The nightcap featured a sprinkling of deja vu as Faulkner gained its first run in the third inning as a result of a throwing error to first base on a Shelbie Burbage single to third base.

Burbage went 2-for-3 and was the only Lady Eagle with multiple hits in a single game today.

Caitlin Perry (10-1) booked five strikeouts and allowed just three hits in the Game 2 shutout.

Faulkner hosts SSAC rival Bethel tomorrow afternoon at Wynn Field. The doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
