No. 24 Houston-Victoria blanks Faulkner in GCI opener

Box Score

GULF SHORES, Ala. - Peyton Branham's one-hit effort from the circle for No. 24 Houston-Victoria (4-5) kept the Faulkner (8-2) offense quiet while 10 hits propelled the Jaguars to a 4-0 victory here in Game 1 of the Gulf Shores Invitational this morning.

The contest was a pitcher's dual through the early innings, but Houston-Victoria soon found a rhythm and by the fifth inning had done all the damage required to secure the win.

Lady Eagles starting pitcher Caitlin Perry (4-1) surrendered four earned runs on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings. The junior booked five strikeouts.

Tori Davis tossed the remainder of the outing and gave up two hits while striking out a batter.

Maggie Tipton accounted for Faulkner's lone hit in the sixth inning.

The Lady Eagles next take on Freed-Hardeman at 3:45 this afternoon.
