No. 23 Faulkner rolls error-prone Point

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Twenty-third-ranked Faulkner (25-3) ripped though Point (14-14) 8-0 in six innings in Game 1 of this afternoon's doubleheader here at Wynn Field before cutting down the Skyhawks 4-1 in the nightcap solidifying the sweep.

Abbigail Barron's one-out triple put Faulkner well within striking distance in the second inning of the opener, but the Lady Eagles were unable transform the effort into a run.

The home team made good on Maggie Tipton's leadoff double in the third, however, when Hannahlee Harris's speed on an infield single helped generate a little infield panic resulting in a rushed scoop and bad throw to first base.

Kayla Gravatt's ensuing twin-RBI single to right-center field then made it a 3-0 affair that same inning.

Barron was at it again in the fifth with a two-RBI double off the left field wall, while runs six and seven were tallied in the sixth inning on a pair of Point errors.

Taylor Ammons brought the game to an early close with a walk-off single just moments later.

While the Faulkner bats created damage on the scoreboard, Caitlin Perry (11-1) kept the Skyhawks at bay with a masterful performance in the circle.

The junior right-hander gave up just one hit while mowing down eight at the plate in her third consecutive shutout.

Barron was 2-for-3 and knocked in a pair of runs while Tipton went 2-for-2 and scored.

Back-to-back RBI doubles courtesy of Kendall Bennett and Emma Cornell put the home team up 2-0 in the first inning of Game 2 before Faulkner again scored on an error in the second.

Julianne Wilkes ushered in the final run of the day for the Lady Eagles with a single to right in the third.

Tori Davis (2-1) surrendered on earned run on 10 hits she scattered over 6 2/3 innings of work in the win.

Cornell got the two-pitch save.

Cornell was also unstoppable at the plate going an impressive 3-for-3 with an RBI.

Harris hit .500, drove in a run and scored.

Faulkner travels to No. 15 Mobile for a Southern States Athletic Conference showdown on Friday. The doubleheader is scheduled for 3 p.m.
