Faulkner, Martin Methodist split SSAC doubleheader

PULASKI, Tenn. - Kendall Bennett's leadoff home run in the fourth inning of today's Southern States Athletic Conference series opener was all that was necessary to lift Faulkner (26-7, 9-5 SSAC) to a 1-0 victory over Martin Methodist, but a pair of impactful at-bats lifted the home team to a 7-3 decision in the second showdown.

Caitlin Perry (13-3) was again stellar from the circle. The junior fanned eight batters while surrendering just four hits in the shutout.

The RedHawks climbed into a 4-0 advantage after knocking in three runs on four hits in the second inning of Game 2.

Shelby Brown's RBI double put the Lady Eagles on the board the following inning, but Martin Methodist mirrored it's second inning effort in the fourth, putting the home team head 7-1.

Bailee Trotter and Brown both drove in runs on singles in Faulkner's final at-bat bringing the event to it's final score.

Emma Cornell (11-3) game up seven earned runs on 10 hits while striking out a pair of batters over four innings in the loss.

Tori Davis pitched the final two frames and walked one batter on an otherwise clean sheet.

Brown went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs in the second event.

Faulkner will next host Judson College (Ala.) in doubleheader action on Thursday beginning at 4 p.m.
