Faulkner wins Gold Bracket championship at Gulf Coast Invitational

GULF SHORES, Ala. - The Lady Eagles severed a second inning tie against Coastal Georgia in Game 3 of the event with solo runs in the fourth and seventh innings to secure the 3-1 win Saturday morning.

Shelby Brown was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run in that game while Abbigail Barron went 2-for-3.

Caitlin Perry (6-1) stuck out 11 Mariner batters while surrendering one earned run on four hits from the circle.

Avila (Mo.) awaited Saturday evening and Faulkner again scored late to gain the 2-1 victory.

All runs in the contest came on sacrifice flies. Taylor Ammons tied the game in the fifth inning and Caity Jo Lee put it away in the seventh.

Shelbie Burbage was a brilliant 3-for-3 and scored in the game, while Hannahlee Harris went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Tori Davis got the start against Avila and allowed six hits and an earned run over 4 1/3 innings.

Emma Cornell (6-0) fired a clean slate through the final 2 2/3 frames and struck out three batters.

Thomas (Ga.) was next in line and again, late scoring proved the deciding factor in the 2-1 decision this morning.

After five scoreless innings, the NightHawks inched into a 1-0 lead on an infield error in the sixth.

The Lady Eagles countered in the do-or-die seventh with an RBI single from Ammons, sending the event into extended play.

Barron tallied the final RBI in the eighth on a fielder's choice.

Perry was again electric in the circle with 11 strikeouts on a four-hit effort.

The 4-1 run pitted Faulkner against Campbellsville in the Gold Bracket championship.

Brown was the scoring tool for Faulkner in the finale, registering both runs on infield errors in the second and fourth innings. She was also 2-for-3 in the game.

Cornell tossed a two-hit, complete game shutout against the Tigers.

The Lady Eagles are off to their best start since 2013. Faulkner will look to extend it's hot streak against No. 14 Reinhardt on Wednesday. The doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m. at Wynn Field.
