No. 14 Mobile builds early lead, hands top-ranked Faulkner first loss

MOBILE, Ala, - Fourteenth-ranked Mobile (18-5, 3-1 SSAC) capitalized on a five-run fourth inning to take down No. 1 Faulkner (21-1, 3-1 SSAC) 6-4 here in Southern States Athletic Conference action this evening.

 

The Rams extended their one-run advantage with an explosive fourth frame anchored by Joseph Burnett's two-RBI double amidst a pair of infield errors.

 

Wes Roberson drove in Faulkner's first run of the contest with a single in the following at-bat before another was tallied on a bases-loaded walk.

 

Rusber Estrada cut the deficit to three runs with a solo homer in the eighth inning and T.J. Riles capped the Eagles' run total with an RBI single in the ninth.

 

Alex DuBord (4-1) allowed two earned runs on seven hits he scattered over 3 1/3 innings in the loss.

 

Brandon Suttles tossed the subsequent two innings and allowed a pair of hits before Jake Koltermsn closed out play with a one-hit, four-strikeout effort.

 

Reese Cooley went 2-for-4 and was the only Eagle with multiple hits.

 

The two teams will concluded the series with a doubleheader set for 1 p.m. tomorrow.
