MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner (17-2, 2-0 SSAC) secured its second straight sweep, and its first in Southern States Athletic Conference play, when it edged Brewton-Parker (3-17, 0-2 SSAC) 2-1 in the opener before securing the same total in nine innings in the nightcap.
The Lady Barons gained a 1-0 lead in the third inning of Game 1, but Abbigail Barron's bases-loaded, twin-RBI rip down the third base line in the bottom of the same frame catapulted the Lady Eagles into a one-run advantage.
Brewton-Parker loaded the bases with just one out on the board in the sixth, but a prompt strikeout from Caitlin Perry and a pop out to foul territory cut the momentum there.
Perry (8-1) fanned nine batters and allowed the lone earned run on three hits in the complete game win.
Barron and Kendall Bennett were both 2-for-3 and Barron had both RBIs.
Bennett knocked in the first run of the second outing with a single up the middle which gave Faulkner 1-0 edge until the fifth inning when Brewton-Parker worked its way into a tie thanks to a Lexi Mays single to the same part of the infield.
Shelbie Burbage finally loosened the gridlock with a leadoff single in the ninth inning. The freshman them moved into deep scoring position thanks to a pair of well-timed swings before ultimately scoring the winning run on a wild pitch.
Emma Cornell (8-0) scattered six hits over nine innings while striking out four batters and giving up an earned run in the second victory.
Burbage was 2-for-4 in the contest.
