Faulkner ices Judson in home series

 

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner (34-7) barreled through Judson College 8-0 in just five innings to claim the Game 1 victory in this afternoon's non-conference doubleheader here at Wynn Field before solidifying the sweep with 2-0 decision in the nightcap.

 

Shelbie Burbage's RBI single put 18th-ranked Faulkner on the scoreboard in the third inning of the opener.

 

The Lady Eagles then hung three more runs in the fourth. Kendall Bennett scored on and infield error while back-to-back singles from Hannahlee Harris and Burbage accounted for the other two.

 

Faulkner's scoring spree culminate with a four-run fifth, securing the abbreviated win. Nicole Morrison and Taylor Ammons offered up a pair of doubles generating one and two runs, respectively, while the final score came on another error.

 

Burbage closed play 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs.

 

Emma Cornell (14-3) struck out seven batters while giving up just two hits in the shutout.

 

Brown dropped a sacrifice fly in right field giving Faulkner a 1-0 advantage in the first at-bat of the second event and bookended the contest with another sac fly to the same spot in the sixth.

 

Tori Davis (5-1) earned the start and victory with a four-hit shutout over five innings in Game 2. The senior also had three strikeouts.

 

Caitlin Perry held the circle for the final two frames and surrendered no hits while striking out four of the seven batters she faced.

 

Harris hit .500 in the series and tallied two runs while knocking in another.

 

Faulkner will next host No. 7 Mobile in a conference series beginning at 2 p.m. on Friday.
