MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner (39-8, 16-6 SSAC) took down Southern States Athletic Conference opponent Martin Methodist (19-21, 9-13 SSAC) 4-2 in Game 1 of this afternoon's doubleheader before blanking the visitors 3-0 in the nightcap to earn the sweep in the home finale here at Wynn Field.
Shelby Brown broke the scoring silence with an RBI single in the third inning and Abbigail Barron made it a 2-0 event with more of the same before the side was retired.
Faulkner then doubled the run cushion in the fifth on RBIs courtesy of Brown and Caity Jo Lee.
A twin-RBI double to hard left field from Taylor Hurford cut the home advantage back in half in the ensuing at-bat, but the Lady Eagle lead was sufficient to solidify the victory.
Caitlin Perry (17-3) gave up two earned runs on seven hits she dispersed over as many innings while booking six strikeouts in the opening win.
Brown's bat continued to inflict damage in Game 2. The senior first baseman again opened scoring, this time with a solo bomb to center field in the fourth inning.
Kendall Bennett wrapped up the scoring with a two-run double in the sixth.
Emma Cornell (16-4) was stellar form the circle in the final bout. The senior left-hander surrendered just a single hit while fanning a season-high nine batters in the shutout.
Brown was an impressive 4-for-6 in the series and drove in three runs while scoring once herself.
Hannahlee Harris went 3-for-4 on the day and scored twice.
Faulkner will next travel to Mt. Vernon, Georgia, to take on Brewton-Parker in an SSAC doubleheader on Friday beginning at noon central.
