COCHRAN, Ga. - Faulkner (42-9, 19-7 SSAC) picked up a 2-0 victory against Southern States Athletic Conference rival Middle Georgia State (18-24, 14-14 SSAC) in Game 1 of this afternoon's doubleheader, but the home team countered with a 1-0 win in the nightcap forcing the split.
Kendall Bennett offered up an RBI single in the second inning of the opener and Shelby Brown delivered the same in the seventh to solidify the Lady Eagle shutout.
Bennett went 2-for-2 in the contest while Brown hit .500.
Hannahlee Harris was 2-for-3 in the opener and Maggie Tipton hit the same in the second showdown.
Emma Cornell (19-4) tallied the win while allowing just three hits and striking out a pair of batters in the complete game effort.
Caitlin Perry (19-4) scattered five hits and struck out five batters over seven innings while giving up the lone earned runs in the loss.
Faulkner resumes action on the road in Lawrenceville, Georgia, on Tuesday when it takes on top-ranked Georgia Gwinnett in a non-conference doubleheader set for 4 p.m. central.
