Box Score 2 MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner (46-6, 19-4 SSAC) struggled little with Southern States Athletic Conference opponent Martin Methodist (Tenn.) (16-24, 10-13 SSAC) in Game 1 of this afternoon's doubleheader, securing the 7-0 victory in as many innings, but the RedHawks scored five unanswered runs in late at-bats in the nightcap to force the split with a 5-4 decision in 11 innings here at Harrison Field.
The bulk of the Eagle scoring in opener occurred in the third inning with half of the four runs coming at the end of a Reid Long homer. Long was 1-for-2 in the outing.
Austin Paschke later capped the Game 1 scoring with a solo bomb in the sixth. He was 1-for-3.
Alex Carrillo (5-0) remained unbeaten after allowing just three hits and striking out three batters spanning five innings.
Jonathan Wilkins gave up a pair of hits and struck out a batter over the final two innings.
A single and two errors led to Faulkner's first three runs in the final contest while Brady Hamilton delivered the Eagle's third homer of the day to make it a 4-0 affair in the seventh inning.
The RedHawks tied the game in the ensuing at-bat, however, when Alex McKelvy hammered a three-RBI triple to hard right field before scoring himself at the end of the parade on an outfield error.
Faulkner moved a pair of runners into scoring position with one out that same inning, but was unable to capitalize.
Martin Methodist broke the stalemate with an RBI single in the 11th.
Braden Olive (2-0) got the start and registered seven strikeouts while allowing two earned runs on five hits scattered over the first seven innings of play.
Brandon Suttles surrendered the tying run in a one-hit eighth inning effort while the loss went to Caleb DeRouen who tossed the three-hit 11th frame.
Tyler Thornton booked three strikeouts while giving up no hits in the ninth and 10th innings.
