Faulkner rolls Bethel in SSAC series

McKENZIE, Tenn. - Faulkner (32-7, 11-5 SSAC) throttled by Southern States Athletic Conference foe Bethel (10-20, 4-8 SSAC) 9-1 here in this afternoon's doubleheader opener before securing the sweep with a 3-1 decision in the finale.

A Shelby Brown RBI single put the Lady Eagles on the board in the first inning of Game 1, but it was a pair of four-run frames in the second and seventh that catapulted the visitors into a lopsided win.

Faulkner scored its first run in the second inning on an error before Brown delivered a three-run blast to left field.

Two more errors brought in the same number of runs in the seventh inning while Hannahlee Harris capped play with a twin-RBI knock to hard left field.

A three-run third inning was enough to seal the Bethel fate in the second showdown.

Brown sparked the decisive at-bat with an RBI and Caity Jo Lee rounded out the scoring with a two-run single to left-center.

Caitlin Perry (14-3) allowed one earned run on seven hits she scattered over as many innings while striking out a pair of batters in the opening win.

Emma Cornell's (13-3) posted identical numbers to Perry's, but mustard four strikeouts against the Wildcats in the second victory.

Brown and Harris were each 4-for-7 in Game 1 and Brown knocked in five runs and scored twice while Harris offered up two RBIs and tallied three runs.

Lee hit .500 and had two RBIs and scored.

Faulkner will next play SSAC opponent Blue Mountain College in Mississippi at 2 p.m. tomorrow.
