Faulkner blanks Campbellsville 2-0, forces if-necessary title showdown

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Second-seeded Faulkner (47-14) avenged yesterday's Bracket No. 2 loss to top-seeded Campbellsville (47-9) with a 2-0 shutout of the Tigers to force the if-necessary championship game in the NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round here at Michael O. Buchanon Park this afternoon.

Shelby Brown's RBI double in the first inning put Faulkner on top early while Alicia Richardson rounded out scoring with an RBI single to first base in the sixth.

Richardson was an impressive 3-for-4 in the contest while Brown and Tara Ammons were both 2-for-4.

Caitlin Perry (22-5) tossed her second brilliant game of the day. The junior right-hander fanned five batters while surrendering just three hits against the nation's No. 4 team.

The two teams will face each other for the third time in two days to determine the Bracket champion. The winner of 5:30 p.m. event will advance to the 38th annual NAIA Softball World Series in Clermont, Florida, beginning May 25.
