Faulkner again blisters Loyola in SSAC tourney

Box Score

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Top-seeded Faulkner (50-6) struggled little with Loyola (26-30), securing a 14-2 victory in tonight's Southern States Athletic Conference tournament bout here at Paterson Field. The Eagles advance to the championship  tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.

The nation's top team took a 4-0 lead in the third inning before Loyola mustered a pair of runs in the fourth.

The Eagles managed to isolate the Wolfpack scoring threat to a single inning while adding 10 more runs to their scoring total over subsequent frames.

Faulkner shortstop Ryan Rosa was nothing short of spectacular, boasting a 4-for-4 effort at the plate with three RBIs and as many runs. He leads the league in batting average this season and sits at the top of the chart in the tournament with a .667 efficiency.

Reid Long wasn't far behind, going 3-for-4 on the night while knocking in a run. The senior outfielder later closed the final two innings from the mound where he struck out two batters while giving up a lone hit.

T.J. Riles hit .500 and scored three times while booking an RBI.

Jacob Freeland and Austin Paschke were both 2-for-3 and scored and registered three RBIs and two RBIs, respectively.

Alex Carrillo tossed the first 4 2/3 innings in the start for the Eagles and surrendered two earned runs on six hits while striking out five batters.

The victory was credited to Andrew Carter in relief. The junior lefty stuck out a batter while holding the mound through the sixth inning.

Jake Kolterman and Jonathan Wilkins split work on the hill in the seventh.

Faulkner awaits the winner of the Middle Georgia State and Mobile matchup set to take place at 11 a.m.
