Box Score Faulkner was in control for all but the final 18 seconds of action in a 34-31 loss to Webber International Saturday before Davonte Williams scored on a 52-yard touchdown pass. Williams ran across the middle and caught a pass in front of a stumbling Faulkner defender to cap his day with 253 all-purpose yards and ice the Warriors' comeback.
The touchdown was part of a 22-point fourth quarter in which the Warriors turned a 12-point deficit into their third win of the season. After Brycen Lee hit Jeremiah Lucas for a 20-yard touchdown pass with 8:51 to play, Malik Meadows (JR/Roanoke, Ala.) turned things back into the Eagles' favor. Meadows had what appeared to be a pick six before the officials conferred and ruled him down at the WIU 14. Blocker followed with a 14-yard touchdown strike to Cordara Laurant (SO/Covington, La.) to move the lead to 31-19 with 6:26 to play.
Webber cut into the deficit with 3:53 to play when Williams caught a one-yard pass from Lee to narrow the gap to 31-26.
Faulkner opened the scoring with 9:39 remaining in the first as Blocker hit Isaiah Scott (FR/Linden, Ala.) for a three-yard touchdown pass. WIU defensive lineman Rashaud Freeman scooped up a shanked punt that traveled only three yards and returned it from the Warrior 41 for a touchdown, cutting it to 7-6.
Josh Gaines (SR/Birmingham, Ala.) scored from a yard out for Faulkner with 8:35 left in the opening half to push it to 14-6. Williams made his first impact on the game with 6:09 left in the second when he scored on a five-yard run.
Alvin Renteria (JR/Phenix City, Ala.) connected on a 44-yard field goal just before half for a 17-12 locker room lead. The Eagles emerged from the intermission with a 62-yard drive that ended with Blocker hitting Gaines for an 11-yard touchdown pass and the 24-12 lead.
Faulkner managed 23 first downs against WIU's 20. The Eagles outgained Webber 456-434. The Eagles rushed for 196 yards on the day with Charles Blackmon (SO/Faunsdale, Ala.) gaining 110 of those. Neikel and Neino Robinson (FR/Century, Fla.) each notched first half interceptions to help lead the defense.
Faulkner returns to action Friday at 4 p.m. central time when it travels to Warner.
