Box Score Faulkner lost its fourth straight game Monday night as it fell 79-66 on the road at Middle Georgia State. A disastrous first quarter seemed to all but doom the Lady Eagles as they fell behind 21-6 through the first 10 minutes of play. Still, the Lady Eagles cut the deficit to 13 by half time and all the way down to seven by the beginning of the fourth quarter.
"We did a great job protecting the ball and rebounding tonight, but Middle Georgia just shot it better and made timely plays when we made runs," Faulkner Head Coach Reed Sutton said.
In the end, Middle Georgia proved efficient enough to withstand the comeback attempt. MGS assisted on 22 of 26 made baskets in the game and shot 40.6 percent from the floor including a stellar 37.5 percent from three in the game.
Faulkner had 15 assists on 21 made baskets but shot only 29.2 percent from the floor. The loss came despite the fact that Faulkner took the rebounding category 44-37.
Kayla Key (JR/Hartselle, Ala.) paced the Eagles with 16 points. Laura Jones (FR/Bonifay, Fla.) chipped in a career high 14 points. Olivia Colson (FR/Thompson's Station, Tenn.) had 11 rebounds while Valentina Klocker (FR/Salzburg, Austria) grabbed 10.
"I was really happy with the solid play and energy of Kayla Key," Sutton said. "Laura Jones is really asserting herself right now and that is a bright spot for our team with her scoring ability. Taylor Jones (JR/Montgomery, Ala.) also played well off the bench."
Joy Sadler notched 24 points to lead Middle Georgia while Kianna Delas had 22.
Faulkner (12-13, 5-11 SSAC) returns to action Thursday when it travels to Tuscaloosa to face Stillman.
