Box Score Faulkner coughed up possession 31 times in Thursday night's SSAC loss in Tuscaloosa, Ala. against Stillman 75-60. Five of those turnovers came in a 10-0 run over 3:15 from the Tigers in the second quarter to flip the tide in favor of the home side.
"No excuses. Stillman beat us tonight. They get all the credit," head coach Reed Sutton said. "They really defended well and forced turnovers. They also made extremely timely shots in the second half when we trimmed their lead."
The Lady Eagles led three times but never more by four in the contest despite Ashlyn Adkins (SO/Locust Fork, Ala.) having a career night scoring. Her 20 point performance was her highest conference total and second highest in her career, falling one point shy to her count against Selma in the first game season. Adkins was eight for nine from the stripe on the evening, leading the team's 21-25 performance free throw shooting. "I was thrilled with our great free throw shooting," Sutton said. "I also thought Ashlyn had a really efficient game tonight."
"The highlight for our team was seeing Angela back on the court tonight. She played very well in limited minutes despite the cast on her injured hand. She is tough as nails." Angela Grant (FR/Hoover, Ala.) returned to action for the first time since Jan. 21 and contributed eight points and five rebounds in 12 minutes off the bench. Olivia Colson (FR/Thompson's Station, Tenn.) led the team with eight rebounds.
Faulkner falls to 12-14 on the season with a 5-12 record in league play and sit three games ahead of 11th place Blue Mountain with three games remaining. The top 10 sides will compete in the SSAC Women's Basketball Championship Feb. 27-March 2 at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl. The Lady Eagles will travel to Mobile to face the Rams at Spring Hill College on Saturday at 2 p.m.
