Box Score Jacob Hulcher (SR/Montgomery, Ala.) was ace level effective Friday night as Faulkner downed visiting Wiley College 8-3 for its fourth consecutive victory. Hulcher struck out 10 batters over six and a third innings of work while scattering four hits and two walks in the effort.
The Eagles got the scoring started in the home half of the third when Trystin Raikes (JR/Ottawa, Ill.) reached on an error ahead of a Myron Mebane (SR/Tallahassee, Fla.) single before Te'kwaan Whyte (SR/Stone Mountain, Ga.) drew a walk to load the bases. An error on a Max Guzman (JR/Miami, Fla.) batted ball allowed all three runners to score for the 3-0 lead.
The Eagles added two more in the fourth as John Michael Matthews (JR/Birmingham, Ala.) drew a walk before Hagen Holmstead (JR/Salt Lake City, Utah) singled. Raikes followed with a two-run single to move the advantage to 5-0.
Sam Anthony (JR/Columbus, Ga.) moved the Faulkner lead to 7-0 in the sixth when he singled home Mebane and Mathews.
After Wiley scratched out three runs in the eighth, Troy Black (SO/Dayton, Ohio) singled, moved to second on a wild pitch, stole third and scored on a balk to leave the final margin at 8-3.
Faulkner (6-2) is set to host Wiley College Saturday in a double header beginning at 2 p.m.
