Box Score 2 Faulkner (12-4) dropped the opener before rallying to split a doubleheader with Talladega Tuesday.
Talladega 5, Faulkner 3
The Eagles carried a 5-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth before the bullpen collapsed and allowed the Tornadoes to mount a go-ahead rally. Wilkin Louis scored on a Julian Lopez sacrifice fly before Manuel Caballero stole home. Oswaldo Calderon struck the big blow of the game with a double that drove in Hamlet Flores and Gustavo Castellano for the 5-3 lead.
Faulkner opened the scoring in the top of the first when Troy Black doubled in Te'kwaan Whyte. The Eagles stretched the lead in the second as John Michael Matthews doubled in Sam Anthony. Whyte then singled home Matthews for the 3-0 advantage.
Joseph Vargas started the game and scattered five hits over three and a third innings while issuing one walk and allowing one earned run before exiting with a 3-1 lead.
Faulkner 7, Talladega 6
The Eagles employed "Johnny Wholestaff" on the mound for game two of the doubleheader, utilizing seven pitchers over nine innings to notch a 7-6 victory.
Faulkner rallied for four runs with two out in the top of third to grab a 4-0 lead. Whyte hit a two-run homer to drive in DeJhard Kimbrough before Jacob Freeland scored on an error. Myron Mebane then singled in Max Guzman.
After Talladega got a run back in the bottom of the third, Faulkner stretched it to a 5-1 lead in the fourth as Freeland singled home Kimbrough. The Tornadoes then hung four unanswered runs on the board to tie the game at 5-5.
Faulkner regained the lead in the top of the ninth when Black singled home Vargas before Bo McClintock's base hit plated Whyte for the 7-5 lead. The Tornadoes plated a run in the home half of the ninth before Heath Olive struck out the final batter of the game to strand the tying run and record his fourth save. Antonio Frias picked up the win after striking out three over a perfect inning and two-thirds.
The Eagles return home Friday to open SSAC play against William Carey.
