Box Score 2 The Lady Eagles (6-9, 1-5 SSAC) hung tight with 15th-ranked William Carey (12-4, 2-0 SSAC) Friday afternoon, but a couple of Lady Crusader outbreaks handed Faulkner a 5-0 defeat and 4-2 extra innings loss.
(15) William Carey 5, (RV) Faulkner 0
After four innings of tough defense and pitching, things unraveled for the Lady Eagles in the fifth when Harli Crow drove in the opening run. Anna Kennedy followed Crow with a two run double. The Lady Crusaders continued their damage in the sixth with a pair of runs. Faulkner's biggest chance of the contest came in the sixth when it loaded the bases with one out but a fielder's choice and strike out ended the frame with out driving in a run.
Abbigail Barron (JR/Panama City, Fla.) went two for three in the contest. Ashton Fielding (JR/Rockford, Ala.) found a fourth inning double for the only mulitple base hit for the Lady Eagles.
Fielding allowed all five runs in the loss. Bailey Whitfield (FR/Alabaster, Ala.) pitched an inning and a third of clean relief.
(15) William Carey 4, (RV) Faulkner 2 (11 Innings)
The Lady Eagles struck early when Tara Ammons (SO/Prattville, Ala.) and Barron found back-to-back singles. Kendall Bennett (JR/Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.)'s double to right center drove home the first run. Madison McKee (FR/Wetumpka, Ala.) drew a bases loaded walk with two outs to double the lead.
William Carey countered in the second with a Macy Monk RBI single to cut the home advantage to 2-1.
With bases loaded and nobody out in the bottom of the third, the Lady Crusaders called on Haley Nations to sort out the Faulkner threat. She struck out the next three batters to halt the attack.
Mary Blair Odom laced a double to deep left field in the sixth to drive home the tying run. After four innings of free softball, Odom's 11th inning single drove home the game winning run.
Bennett went two for five. Fielding and Maggie Tipton (JR/Selma, Ala.) each drew two walks.
Caitlian Perry was handed the loss despite striking out 11 batters over 153 pitches.
The Lady Eagles will host the Lady Crusaders Saturday in a doubleheader to conclude the series. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
