Faulkner's best chance came in the sixth when Abbigail Barron (JR/Panama City, Fla.)'s lead off double put Faulkner in position for a pair of sacrifice plays could score the tying run. Madison McKee (FR/Wetumpka, Ala.) pinch ran for Barron after the hit. Kendall Bennett (JR/Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.) completed the sacrifice bunt to advance McKee, but she would be stranded on third after Lady Crusader pitcher Lindsey Johnson coaxed two groundouts to end the threat.
The Lady Eagles had another good chance in the seventh when Julianne Wilkes (JR/Deatsville, Ala.) drew a walk, her second of the game. Brianna Cagle (SO/Decatur, Ala.)'s sacrifice bunt advanced Wilkes to second before Caity Jo Lee (SO/Wetumpka, Ala.)'s infield hit put runners on the corners with two outs. Shelbie Burbage (SO/Prattville, Ala.) replaced Lee on the basepaths and took second on defensive indifference but could not advance any further and William Carey found the final out.Â
Ashton Fielding (JR/Rockford, Ala.) suffered the loss on the hill despite scattering just four hits over seven innings.
