Box Score 2 Faulkner found its breakout performance in a big way Tuesday, bringing its bats out of a slumber to the tune of 32 hits and 19 runs in a two-game road sweep of Stillman.
FAULKNER 10, STILLMAN 0
The bats were far from the story for the Lady Eagles in the opener as Caitlin Perry (SR/Montgomery, Ala.) dazzled, using only 78 pitches to throw a no-hitter. Perry grazed the elbow of Candace Hampton in the bottom of the sixth, just four outs away from a perfect game. No other Stillman player would reach base in the contest as Perry struck out four in the win.
The Lady Eagles opened the game in a big way when Shelbie Burbage (SO/Prattville, Ala.) tripled to right to ignite a rally. She scored on a Taylor Parker (JR/Corner, Ala.) single for the 1-0 Faulkner lead. Maggie Tipton (JR/Selma, Ala.)'s grounder plated Parker for the 2-0 advantage.
The score stayed there until the top of the seventh when Faulkner exploded for eight runs on seven hits. Parker's bunt single started the frame. She moved to second on an Abbigail Barron (JR/Panama City, Fla.) sacrifice bunt before stealing third. With two away in the inning, Ashton Fielding (JR/Rockford, Ala.) doubled to left-center to plate Parker and move the score to 3-0. Tipton then doubled to left to drive in Fielding. Abby Tindol (FR/Billingsley, Ala.) scored on an error to set the lead at 5-0.
Dakota Berry (JR/Milton, Fla.) made it home on Burbage's bases-loaded walk to push it to 6-0 before Parker singled in Julianne Wilkes (JR/Deatsville, Ala.). Brianna Cagle (SO/Decatur, Ala.) scored on Abbigail Barron's hit-by-pitch. Kendall Bennett (JR/Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.) followed with a double to drive in Burbage and Parker to cap the scoring.
FAULKNER 9, STILLMAN 2
Things slowed down very little for the Lady Eagles in the nightcap. Stillman grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Ragen Yarbrough singled in Candace Hampton. Faulkner took the lead in the third when Bennett doubled home Burbage and Parker. Caity Jo Lee (SO/Wetumpka, Ala.) scored on an error in the fourth before Tindol scored on Parker's double for the 4-1 advantage.
Stillman climbed back in it in the bottom of the fifth on a Tayla Stowes homer.
Then Faulkner put it away in the sixth with a four-run inning. Fielding singled home Burbage. An error allowed Parker, Bennett and Fielding to score. Tindol stole home on the back end of a double steal in the seventh for the final run of the game.
Perry picked up her second win of the day after working six innings while scattering three hits and striking out one.
Faulkner (9-10, 4-6 SSAC) returns to action Friday, March 29 when it travels to Blue Mountain.
