Box Score 2 Faulkner rallied to take Friday's doubleheader at Blue Mountain and earn a split in the season series. The Lady Eagles chased Blue Mountain's ace in game one and scored in three straight innings in game two for the victory.
FAULKNER 8, BLUE MOUNTAIN 1
Faulkner got the bats working early and often in game one Friday, downing the Lady Toppers 8-1.
The Lady Eagles hung two on the board in the second inning when Maggie Tipton (JR/Selma, Ala.) and Julianne Wilkes (JR/Deatsville, Ala.) each scored on an error. Kendall Bennett (JR/Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.) and Ashton Fielding (JR/Rockford, Ala.) scored on Dakota Berry (JR/Milton, Fla.)'s RBI single in the third to move the lead to 4-0 before Abbigail Barron (JR/Panama City, Fla.) doubled home Shelbie Burbage (SO/Prattville, Ala.) in the fourth for a 5-0 advantage.
Wilkes doubled in Fielding in the fifth to stake Caitlin Perry (SR/Montgomery, Ala.) to a 5-0 lead before Blue Mountain finally got on the board.
Cheyenne Childree and Tianna Castillo had back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the sixth to get the Lady Toppers in the run column. Faulkner fired right back with a two-run seventh that saw Wilkes single, move to second on a Brianna Cagle (SO/Decatur, Ala.) sacrifice bunt and later swipe home as part of a double steal.
Taylor Parker (JR/Corner, Ala.) drove in the final run of the game when her double plated Burbage.
Perry struck out seven batters over a complete game effort while allowing one earned run. Â Â
FAULKNER 5, BLUE MOUNTAIN 4
The Lady Eagles rallied for three runs in the top of the third in game two to propel themselves to a 5-4 win. Bennett singled in Caity Jo Lee (SO/Wetumpka, Ala.) to put Faulkner up 1-0 in the third. Fielding later stroked a two-run homer to put the Lady Eagles up 3-0.
Blue Mountain fought back with a run in each of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings. The Lady Eagles never lost the lead, moving the advantage to 4-1 in the fourth when Lee singled in Parker. Tara Ammons (SO/Prattville, Ala.) drove home Brianna Cagle with a single in the fifth to make it 5-2.
Bailey Whitfield (FR/Alabaster, Ala.) got the win, striking out two over four and a third innings of work while surrendering three earned runs. Perry got the save, striking out three over two and two-thirds innings of work.
Faulkner (11-12, 6-8 SSAC) returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Judson College in a doubleheader.
